A 5-day immersive anti-oppression class in Oakland Chinatown for Asian American youth, learning about early Chinese immigration history, various grassroots efforts to rebuild and resource Chinatown throughout the years, and current efforts to build BIPOC solidarity, address houselessness, and disrupt racialized violence. Remembering, reconnecting with our history and culture is healing!
Activities include:
- Chinatown historical walking tour with the first Asian American woman mayor of Oakland, Jean Quan, and her husband Floyd Huen
- BIPOC solidarity history and Zine-Making workshop with Katie Quan from Real Soul
- Black Panther's Movement and augmented reality AR workshop with Oakland artist Damian McDuffie from Black Terminus AR
- Empathy walk and Implicit Bias Workshop with Family Bridges
- Intergenerational Activities (ping pong turnament and hot pot) with seniors at Chinatown’s Lincoln Rec Center
- Interview long-term Chinatown business owners and residents
